September in Review

This post is a bit late in the month. That's because I'm a bad blogger, guys. Sorry, I'm not sorry. But let's look at some pictures from the lovely month of September!

Towards the end of the month, I took a lovely road trip to San Francisco! We stayed there and in Berkeley for almost a week. There was lots of amazing food, pretty sights, and fun times.

October in Review

pumpkin pie, because duh, it's October. other pumpkin goodies consumed: pumpkin butterscotch pancakes, pumpkin pie vodka, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin butter.

Hera bust from "The Body Beautiful" exhibit at Portland Art Museum, which focused on sculptures/vases of Ancient Greece. Not pictured: way too many floppy units and man butts. 

My little sister's first two tattoos! *tear* I'm just so proud.

Whilst rearranging my bedroom in a confused effort to solve recent sleeping issues, I decided I needed a giant white paper lantern. I then decided that I should cover that lantern in all the glitter that I own. This was a terrible, beautiful idea. My entire apartment is now covered in glitter. I love/hate it so much.

I started re-reading my favorite comic series ever, Love and Rockets by the Hernandez brothers.

We spotted this near OMSI after Zombie Walk. I really love the embroidery someone stapled up high. It's a lovely autumn barnhouse scene.

We tried to dye Andrew's hair grey, but it somehow ended up blue, which is still awesome.

Yes, it appears this IS a good spot for tags.

I just wanted to show you guys a tiny little project I did over the weekend.  Last week, Stacey and I went to Small World Surprises, a store at Cedar Hills Crossing that sells cute asian toys, stationary, plushes, etc. (Hello Kitty galore! It's insane.)

I ended up buying some glittery glow-in-the-dark stickers, amongst other things. (I can't resist weird stationary and puzzle erasers) When I got home, I wasn't quite sure what to put the stickers on. I ended up grabbing some black construction paper and cutting it to fit in an extra picture frame I had lying around. I painted the frame black with silver glitter, then arranged a little scene on the construction paper. I really like how it turned out, and it looks awesome when it's glowing!

Portland Art Museum

My little sister, Kendra, just moved to Oregon from Alaska! She’s been staying with me this week, then she’s off to camp for a month or so, then moving down to Eugene. I’m really excited that she’s going to be just a short drive away from me, so we can hang out more often! On Tuesday, we headed downtown to visit the Portland Art Museum. I’ve lived here almost four years now, but have somehow never been to the art museum! It’s a damn shame, and I’m glad I finally went.
The European Art Gallery, or as I fondly remember it "Way Too Many Baby Penises"

This was one of my favorites of the European pieces. Amongst a room of portraits of holy figures and beautiful lords and ladies, here were... two dead birds.

This was a neon-painted TV covered with Japanese monsters, giant gems, and random toys. It was the tackiest thing I've ever seen, and thus I was instantly in love with it.

This one was titled "Alaska", though Kendra pointed out that it wasn't nearly as cold, dark, and depressing enough to be called that.

And last but not least, my very very favorite thing in the entire museum. It's at the top floor, and was one of the last things we saw. A giant miniature (oxymoron?) city of glass and lights. It was beautiful and perfect and looked like the setting of a utopic sci-fi movie. When I got home, I did some research and found out it is titled "City 0000" by Mike Kelley, and was inspired by the city of Kandor from Superman comics. (How perfect is it that Kendra just happened to be wearing a Superman shirt?!)

Up until recently, my bedroom wall was a collaged mass of black/white photos/magazine pages/random objects. It was neat for awhile, but I was really starting to get tired of it. This is also how I know I’m getting older. Rather than having my walls completely collaged floor to ceiling with pages from art/fashion magazines, I actually want pieces of art in proper frames. But I still retain some of my rebellion in the fact that I refuse to use a level or ruler. Crooked frames fo lyfe.

Those last two are my newest and current favorite prints ever. They’re from Wishcandy. She makes beautiful portraits of lovely ladies with tattoos, crazy hair, and cool clothes. She even sent a free print and sticker with my order! Woo.
