Outfit: Space Girl

dress: Target  space collar: Ether Apparel  boots: thrifted  helmet: ebay

For Halloween this year, I was a Space Girl. I was initially going to be an astronaut/space cadet, but the helmet I ordered off ebay (which I'm wearing above) was ridiculously uncomfortable and floppy. My space cadet collar is from Ether Apparel on Etsy. They make really fantastic pieces, custom made for your size and color preferences, and at pretty inexpensive prices!

Outfit: Tiki Party in Space

dress: thrifted Forever 21  belt: Forever 21  tights: ebay  shoes: Miss Bisou

Yesterday I dressed up for an impromptu "tiki party in space", complete with pulled pork burritos, rum and juice, and a hilarious game of Cards Against Humanity. It's been really nice not having to worry about homework, twenty-page research papers, and four hour long classes; just relaxing and hanging out with friends. I plan on enjoying this summer break as much as humanly possible!

things to make your sick self feel better.

IMG_5442
I have the worst cold in the world and I feel like I'm dying. I know I'm not the only one. It seems like all my friends and co-workers have got this icky sickness at least once this winter. I think this is my third time being sick in the last couple months. Blech! It wasn't so bad the first two times, but this is the WORST. I've been trying to lay low and recuperate, but it's hard to do with that whole job and school thing. Alas. Here are some things that are making me feel better. (sidenote: How awesome is my Space Unicorn?! My friend Megan made it for my birfday. I haven't named it yet, but I'm totally in love with it.)

TEA TEA TEAI just want to drink hot tea all day long. The steam helps my congestion, the hot cup feels nice in my hands, and I have some yummy flavors. Tea is just so comforting when I'm all "blechhhh".
bath
Baths! These are made even better by a nice Lush bath bomb. Today I used Phoenix Rising, which smells like cinnamon-apple and makes the water a pretty deep purple. It's nice to just relax in a hot bath and forget that I feel like I'm dying of the black plague.

My Favorite TV Shows
It lifts my spirits a bit when I watch some of my most-loved shows. I adore comedies like 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Community, and The Office. Also, some Doctor Who always gives me warm fuzzy feelings!

A Phone Call to Mom
It's always nice to talk to my mom and catch up on things. She's always suggesting recipes to try, drinks to make, crafts to try out. When I'm sick, she always knows what I need to get better, and what medicines/vitamins I should be taking.

Comfy Soft Fuzzy ThingsI'm a very tactile person, so it's comforting to me when I'm covered in my fuzziest blankets, laying on my fuzziest pillow. If I'm sick, I try to wear the comfiest clothes I have. Right now, it's a long, soft cotton skirt, a stripey tank top, a worn-out cardigan, and fuzzy socks.

I hope this helps anyone out there who also has this awful virus.. Let's feel better soon, friends!
What do you guys do to comfort yourself when you're feeling icky?

For my birthday party in a couple weeks, I'm asking my friends to dress up as "an astronaut, space cadet, alien, glitter-queen space-princess, sci-fi character, future person, time lord, sith lord, robot,  or any other being one would find on a spaceship in the future". I haven't figured out my own costume yet, but I love all of the looks above. I'm definitely leaning towards something shiny or holographic, and I assure you there will be glitter. lots of glitter. SPACE GLITTER.

Outfit: space cake

IMG_3290IMG_3300IMG_3351IMG_3359IMG_3276
sweater: Forever 21
collar: H&M
skirt: Decree
boots: Sheikh
rocket brooch: Zombot Shop

This detachable collar reminds me of cake and sprinkles. I want to wear it with everything! The glass bead in the middle is actually an old earring that I attached to a back that does a pretty good job of holding detachable collars in place. The earring itself looks like a glittery little swirl of frosting, which is kinda perfect. I also loooooove this skirt, it's holographic shimmery silver-rainbow material! It makes me happy wearing glitter and sparkles and sequins all the time.
Did I mention that I'm being a Glitter-Queen Space-Princess for Halloween? It's going to be FANTASTICAL.

Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

IMG_20120526_155647
Last Saturday, Andrew and I headed to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum along with our lovely friends, Zak and Faye. It’s a really neat place, divided into a few large buildings. There’s one building devoted to planes, aviation, and guns, another devoted to space exploration and helicopters, and one more with an Imax theater. There’s also….an indoor waterpark! It has a Boeing 747 on top of the building, with water slides coming out of the exit doors. We decided to save the waterpark for another day, as we spent most of the day exploring the museums.

I was pretty impressed by the museum. We spend hours exploring, admiring big shiny flying machines and interacting with exhibits (space shuttle landing simulation video game? Yay!) I’m already looking forward to checking out the waterpark sometime this summer and wandering around the space museum again. If you live in Oregon, you should definitely take a little trip to McMinnville and check it out!
