Estate Sale!

Yesterday, me and Andrew happened upon an awesome Estate Sale. It was in a big house, full of books, dolls, floral pictures, collector’s plates, and figurines. So, of course I found lots of goodies! Aren’t those little dogs adorable? I’m in love with the little schnauzer. He’s actually an old Avon perfume bottle. His head twists off!

I’ve been into oval picture frames lately. These are lovely.I couldn’t resist this cute owl family.A pile of ribbon and bows!A pair of red velvet elbow-length gloves!

I got all these things and a couple others for just eleven bucks! I’m thinking I’ll be seeking out some more estate sales this summer. They’re much better than garage sales!

Thrifting Day!

A week or so ago, me and miss Stacey had another one of our amazing Portland thrift store adventures. Here’s some of the sights we saw:

The above pictures are from an amazing shop called Magpie. They always have amazing window displays, not to mention the best selection of jewelry. Do you see all those cameos?! I wish I could give them all a home. Sigh.

These are from Vintage Pink. I was so in love with all three of these items, but they were a bit spendy for me.

And last, but not least: Here’s some of the great things that I ended up bringing home:

Isn’t that owl adorable?! I freaked out a bit when I saw it, mostly because my mom used to have the same exact one. It was always sitting on her trinket shelf while I was growing up. I also couldn’t pass up that creepy mannequin head for $5! I plan on dying her hair purple and giving her some better bangs. That red/white stripey fabric in the background is an awesome apron. I’ve been wanting a cute apron for awhile. I might dress this one up with some ruffles, and add some fun pockets!

Thrifting Day with Stacey and Kendra

This post is a bit late, since this shopping trip was on a couple days before Christmas, while my little sister was still visiting. Stacey, Kendra, and I had an awesome day full of thrift stores, crazy-busy malls, and The Great Portland Cupcake Tour (more about that next time!).We started off the day with some Black Rock Coffee. The ever-angsty Batman was upset that he couldn’t drink any of it with his plastic mouth, and thus spent the whole trip staring out the window, totally ignoring us.

One of the first vintage shops we stopped at was Lounge Lizard. This place has AMAZING furniture and lamps.

I was totally in love with the dresser in the above picture. They had a large version of it AND a desk in the same style. If I had lots of money, I probably would’ve walked out with the whole set.

Next was Vintage Pink, with its fun assortment of retro furniture, clothes, and magazines. They always have really fun window displays.

I found my dream couch there! Call me tacky, but I’ll always love anything made of fuzzy animal print.

Last, but not least, was the grandest of all vintage stores, House of Vintage. At over 13,000 square feet, it’s definitely the biggest vintage store in Portland, and the largest I’ve ever seen in my life!

They have everything you could imagine, from any era. I kept seeing owls everywhere, and had to seriously restrain myself from taking home all of them. Here’s just a few of them:

Stacey kept finding gorgeous vintage hats. She ended up buying the pink netted hat! It’s adorable and perfect for our random days of dressing fancy.

Another wood painting. I’m finding that I really love any weird/tacky/cute painting done on wood. Hmmm.

Retro space rangers from The Dollar Scholar. I bought five of these awesome guys for a buck each!

I just realized Kendra wasn’t really in any of these pictures, then I remembered that she was the one taking most of the pictures.  She just got a new camera, which is wayyyy better than mine. I was having some crazy camera-jealousy while she was here, so now I’m thinking it’s time to buy a new one!

Thifting Time!

On Wednesday, my awesome little sister, Kendra, flew down from Alaska to spend some time in Oregon. Yesterday, we spent the day shopping, which of course included a couple thrift stores. Here’s some of the wonderful things I ended up bringing home:

Awesome hand-painted porcelain owl. I have quite the owl collection going right now, but that's a blog post for another time... 

Adorable flats. Only five bucks! I've been looking for shoes in this style for awhile with no luck. I really love the black bows on the front!

Ridiculously hard M.C. Escher sliding-tile puzzle. I will probably never ever solve this, but that's alright!

Very in-depth book on gnomes. It's full of maps, diagrams, stories, and illustrations!

Excellent vintage French advertisement for absinthe! It'll fit in perfectly with this wall of my apartment:

Next week, me and Kendra are going to do some vintage shopping in Southeast Portland, specifically on Hawthorne. There's sooo many amazing vintage/secondhand shops there. I'm definitely looking forward to it!
