Outfit- Birthday!

IMG_2906cIMG_2901IMG_2920IMG_2899IMG_2914
dress: Guess, thrifted
cardigan: Fossil, thrifted
tights: Hot Topic
belt: ebay
shoes: Plato’s Closet
necklace: handmade by me

Yesterday was my 23rd birthday! It was a lovely day, one of my best birthdays in recent years! I made a crazy delicious Chocolate Stout Cake with Raspberry Liqueur frosting and raspberries on top. I had some of my wonderful friends over for a party, which included multiple rousing games of Apples to Apples and an all out Nerf Gun war.

I’m in love with my birthday dress. I picked it up last week when Stacey and I did some thrift store shopping. After I found this dress, Stacey ended up finding a pastel pink lace dress from the 1950’s! We plan on dressing up together sometime this week for a fancy smancy night on the town.

The tights I’m wearing are pretty fun ones. They make it look like I have jewelry-style garters tattooed above my knee. I picked them up for a dollar on Hot Topic’s clearance rack. Sadly, they’re pretty
cheaply made, and they were already getting holes and runs in them by the end of the night, so I probably won’t be wearing them again. Good thing they were just a dollar!

Also. My lovely boyfriend, Andrew, took pictures with me. Check out his snazziness!

Oh dear.  That’s what I get for purchasing him weapons as Christmas presents. tsk, tsk.

Outfit- In a Galaxy Far, Far Away

IMG_2894IMG_2853IMG_2862IMG_2880IMG_2820IMG_2815
flannel shirt: O’Neill, thrifted
t-shirt: thrifted: Buffalo Exchange
brooch: my shop

So today is the day that Star Wars: Episode 1 premieres in 3D, with the rest of the movies soon to follow. I have some pretty mixed feelings about this. I love Star Wars, but I feel like Lucas has the tendency of bastardizing his own creations in the name of $$$$. Alas, I felt the need to wear my Star Wars shirt today, and I’ll probably end up giving in and going to the theater sometime this week to see some three-dimensional light saber action. (I’ll just cover my eyes whenever Jar Jar Binks makes an appearance. But I digress…

I have a long night of work at the pub ahead of me, so I’m wearing the mandatory collared shirt. I’m rocking a dangly earring in just one ear today, inspired by my best friend, Stacey, and her habit of asymmetrical earwear. Sadly, I cannot wear my Darth Vader mask to work while hitting unsuspecting customers with my lightsaber. I may or may not have been a lady Darth Vader for Halloween one year. I also may or may not have a whole shelf devoted to Star Wars figurines.IMG_2825

Lovely Things

This handmade comic dress
I adore anything with comic print. If I had an extra two hundred bucks lying around, I would make this dress mine!

This ray gun mug
I’m a sucker for anything with ray guns! Speaking of ray guns…
Tips for making ray guns
This amazing handmade ray gun
Check out the tutorial. The maker creates these out of found pieces like vases, metal candlesticks, and door knobs. They then rig them with LED lights! If I had some power tools and the electrical know-how, this would be a super fun project.

I feel like these might appear odd from far away, like you had a skin disease. I really like the way they look though!

Outfit- Monochrome & Stripes

dress: ebay: Forever 21
cardigan: thrifted: Goodwill
shoes: thrifted
belt: thrifted: Betsey Johnson
necklace: black heart cameo

I’ve been trying to wear my colors lately, but my favorite outfits still tend to be black/white ensembles. I really like keeping every party of my outfit monochrome and sticking to a theme. The shoes I’m wearing are my favorites ever. Mary-Janes with comic pictures and phrases all over! They’re sadly starting to fall apart; I really wish I knew where to get more! I got them at a now-closed gothy second-hand store called Alteration Nation. Oh well!

Clay Mouse

IMG_2647
So for my Polymer Clay Workshop this week, we got some more practice sculpting animals, specifically rodents. I definitely still have a lot to learn about sculpting and making creatures out of clay. It’s still hard for me to get the clay to look how I envision it in my head. I really like this little mouse I made though.

After baking, sanding & polishing, and painting.  Little fingers and toes are hard to make! I tried to give it a red tongue, but it looks a bit more like lipstick. Oh well!IMG_2655The real rodent in the pictures is my rat, Volta. It’s nearly impossible to get my rats to stop moving long enough to get pictures, so she had to be bribed with wheat thins, as you can see in the picture!

Volta and Tesla! I love these little creatures.

January in Pictures

IMG_1656
Here in Northern Oregon, we got our annual two days of light snow.

IMG_2555
Found a detachable Peter Pan collar on Ebay, paired it with one of my brooches. I felt a bit like Wednesday Adams all day, which is never a bad thing!

IMG_2147
My new favorite snack: homemade caramel and granny smith apples!

IMG_1973
Found this awesome flannel shirt at Goodwill. I actually didn’t realize it had text on the back until I was checking out, but it just made the shirt more awesome.

IMG_2468
Went to dinner at Interurban, where the menus come in old-school file folders, LCD Soundsystem flows from the turntable, and the food and drinks are crazy/delicious. I had some delicious polenta croquettes and fried pizza, with some yummy whiskey cocktails. A bit on the expensive side for me, but it was a neat experience.

IMG_2475
Found a stripey long-sleeved dress on ebay with black buttons and a Peter Pan collar! Wore it with a black heart cameo.
IMG_1660And I made some lavender homemade icing (this picture doesn’t do the color justice) and made a mini cake with sprinkles. The icing was a bit liquidy, so I’ll have to adjust the recipe a bit next time. Still delicious!

Outfit: fancy faux fur

dress: Forever 21
cardigan: thrifted: Goodwill
tights: Target
shoes: Miss Bisou
necklace: vintage cameo

I love faux fur, especially in black, grey, or odd colors. If this cardigan was light purple with dark purple faux fur, it would be absolutely perfect! I dress up a bit fancy as often as I can, especially when I have days off work. Unless I’m doing a kitchen shift, you’ll almost never see me in pants or jeans. I actually kinda despise blue jeans these days. They feel so uncomfortable compared to my skirts and dresses!

These outer space tights
I wish I knew where to buy these! I have quite a few sci-fi/space t-shirts that these would go perfectly with.

This print
I love the typography of this, and the saying itself. As someone who waits tables, I can definitely agree with this.
